Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 2026

Introduction

Your privacy is important to us. This policy explains what data we collect, how it's used, where it's stored, and the choices you have when you use the Expenses Tracker mobile application.

Data We Collect

Account information: your email address, display name, and a securely hashed password (we never store your password in plain text). Financial data you enter: transaction titles, amounts, categories, dates, notes, budgets, accounts, recurring bills, and savings goals. Receipt photos, if you choose to attach one to a transaction. A biometric-lock preference (on/off) — if you enable Face ID or fingerprint unlock, authentication happens entirely on your device via the operating system; we never receive or store your actual biometric data.

How We Use Your Data

Your data is used solely to operate the app for you: displaying your transactions and balances, generating reports, tracking budgets and savings goals, and sending you optional local reminders for upcoming bills. We do not sell your data, and we do not use any third-party analytics or advertising services.

Data Storage & Security

Your account and financial data are stored in a MongoDB Atlas database (a cloud database hosting service) with encryption in transit via HTTPS/TLS. Passwords are hashed with bcrypt before storage. On your device, we store only your login session and a small set of local preferences (such as your biometric-lock setting) — the app does not keep a separate local copy of your financial data; it's fetched securely from our server each time you use the app.

Third-Party Services

If you attach a photo to a transaction, it's uploaded to Cloudinary, a third-party image hosting service, solely to store and serve that image back to you. We don't use any other third-party data processors, analytics, or advertising SDKs.

Your Rights

You can view, edit, or delete any of your transactions, budgets, accounts, recurring bills, or savings goals at any time within the app. You can request deletion of your entire account directly from Settings → Delete Account. This signs you out and starts a 30-day grace period — if you log back in before it ends, you can cancel the deletion from Settings and keep your account exactly as it was. If you don't log back in within those 30 days, your account and all associated data, including uploaded receipts, are automatically and permanently deleted. See our account deletion page for full details.

Children's Privacy

This app is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
